A group of professional musicians Enabling community performance & the creation & performance of Welsh Chamber Music.

Tonau is a flexible ensemble and can deliver Nantwen’s relaxed and engaging concerts anywhere. If you would like to discuss having a performance (with the inclusion of music by a Welsh composer) by this exceptional, yet down to earth group of musicians then please do get in touch.

  • Tônau was formed out of the impulse of Nantwen. Nantwen Music was created by Cellist Daniel Davies and his wife Jemma as a wholesome place to experience, perform and learn about classical chamber music. The setting is small, beautiful, ecologically sensitive and an inspiring place to make music.

Nantwen means ‘white springs’ a place where fresh mountain water springs in abundance from the ground. Tonnau is the welsh word for waves and Tônau means musical Tones. It is hoped that Tônau can enable new music to spring into life and make waves across communities in Wales and beyond. Facilitated by Cellist Daniel Davies the members of Tônau are the professional musicians, drawn from leading UK and European orchestras who come to work at Nantwen.

  • String Quintet (2 cellos) commission from composer John Metcalf with premiere performance at Nantwen’s Chamber Music Festival in June 2023. This was funded by Ty Cerdd.

  • Tônau can receive donations up to a set amount. If you would like to donate to Tônau to enable community projects within Pembrokeshire You are welcome to donate anonymously with the link below.
