Please note that this course is likely to run alongside our popular Chamber Music Festival, participants will be entitled to discretionary refreshments at each concert should they buy a ticket.

A small, friendly and relaxed course for adult amateur string players of any level. It copies the format of our popular chamber music summer school but without an evening element, with Thursday + Friday finishing before 4pm. Saturday will have sessions throughout the day running until around 5pm. A maximum of 16 participants play alongside our excellent tutors in quartets, trios, sextets or quintets . During the course you work intensively on a piece with the option to perform it informally on the final morning of the chamber music course.

The essence of the chamber music course is to play music in a relaxed and informal setting and with lovely people, great food and great music. A regular feature of the course is that the tutor plays alongside the participants often as a member of the ensemble. Whilst this is not always guaranteed it does happen regularly.

Suitable for  players  of Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass of any age (18-118) and any level (participants range from beginners to professional level) this three day is your opportunity to experience playing some of the finest chamber music written for your instruments. You can apply to the course as an individual or as a preformed group.

The course is hosted by Jemma & Daniel and is led by professional musicians who trained at the highest level in the UK’s leading conservatoires and work with leading orchestras and ensembles and teach at some of the UK’s leading Music Colleges.

Some course testimonials:

The location was beautiful, a perfect setting for music making. Our tutor Fran was great –  full of encouragement, enthusiasm and useful tips for improvement. Jemma’s home cooked food was delicious. I’m looking forward to coming again next year.

What luxury to be able to play wonderful chamber music in beautiful surroundings and to be sustained by delicious meals at regular intervals. Jemma and Daniel have created a delightful venue for music making at Nantwen, and our playing was guided and encouraged by experienced tutors.

I can’t think of a better way for a chamber musician to spend a few days in Wales or anywhere than going to Nantwen.  Daniel and the tutors/coaches do a fantastic job selecting music, making the workshop welcoming and friendly to musicians of all levels, and working with the groups. The combination of ensemble time, group play, and free time is well balanced, giving each person (and group) time and space to learn and grow. I’ve gone three times and can’t wait to go again – it’s the highlight of my summer. Kalpana
