Euterpe’s Song

A composition, community engagement & performance project.

Supported by the Dementia Trust through their Disruption Awards.

Throughout 2025 and into 2026 Cellist Daniel Davies and the members of the Nantwen Ensemble will work with a composer to engage audiences in a conversation and awareness around Dementia.

Our composer will create a beautiful piece of music that captures within the work, spoken phrases collected from individuals with Dementia and/or their carers, friends or family.

The Nantwen Ensemble will perform this work in a range of community and performance settings throughout 2025 and 2026.

The project will be documented by a film.

Why Dementia?

Dementia is a relevant subject to many of the musicians who work as members of the Nantwen Ensemble. Daniel’s grandfather (on the right) had Alzheimer’s making this project a very personal endeavour.

Everyone has an experience of Dementia and is reflected across society and all demographics with increasing numbers of people being diagnosed with Dementia of some sort.

The Disruption Award from the Dementia Trust has provided a wonderful mechanism to have a creative impetus to engage in conversations about Dementia.

We hope that the resulting composition will have longevity well beyond its first year of performance.

If you would like to contribute or join the project as a venue or promoter then please do contact Daniel.
